About Bed Bugs Answers
What is Bed Bugs Answers?

Bed Bugs Answers is a reference and referral site for bed bug treatment across the United States. We explain what the signs look like, what each treatment method involves, and what the questions are worth asking before you book - then we connect you with a licensed local company. Bed Bugs Answers connects you with licensed local pest control companies. We are not a pest control contractor.

How does this site make money?

When we match you with a local company, that company pays us a referral fee. You pay us nothing, and the fee does not change the quote you are given.

Saying so plainly explains our bias, and we would rather you knew it: we earn when you get matched. What we do not earn on is which method you end up choosing or how large the job turns out to be, which is why nothing here pushes you toward the bigger treatment.

Why are there no prices or timeframes on this site?

Because we have not sourced them yet. Our rule is that a fact appears on a page only when it is in that page’s research, with a named source and the date it was checked - and until that research exists for a figure, the figure does not go up.

Why are there no prices or timeframes on this site?

This is the opposite of how most sites in this category read, and it is deliberate. A confident national average for a job that depends on your rooms, your method and your building is not information; it is decoration. What you get here instead is the list of things that decide your number, so you can read a real quote properly.

How this works

From “what is that?” to “someone is handling it”

Four steps, nothing booked until you say so, and no obligation at any of them.

  1. 1

    Work out what you have

Bites with nothing visible, marks on the sheets, and specks along a mattress seam are different findings that point in different directions.

  2. 2

    Tell us what you found

Where you found it, how many rooms are involved, and whether this is a house you own, a rental, or a unit in a shared building.

  3. 3

    See what each method involves

Heat, steam and chemical work are different jobs with different preparation. Knowing which one is being quoted matters before you agree to the number.

  4. 4

    Matched with a local company

A licensed local company, their own quote, their own schedule. We do not carry out treatment, so nothing here is a sales call.

How we work

What this site will and will not do

Identify before you treat

Bites with no insect found, specks on a seam, and marks on the sheets are different findings. Which one you have changes what the treatment should be.

Plain language, no scare tactics

No countdown, no talk of the problem racing through your home while you read. It is a real problem and it is a solvable one.

We are not the contractor

We do not treat anything, so we have nothing to gain from steering you toward the bigger job. Licensed local companies do the work and quote it themselves.

Nothing we cannot source

If a figure is not in our research, it does not go on the page. That is why you will find questions here that other sites answer with a confident number.

Who this is for

Homes & shared buildings

A bedroom in a private home
Homes

Houses & apartments

One bedroom or several changes the job more than the size of the property does - which is why the first question any company asks is how many rooms are involved.

A corridor in a multi-unit building
Rentals & shared buildings

Multi-unit & hospitality

Shared walls, shared laundry and a landlord in the middle change who decides what. Worth settling those questions before treatment is booked, not after.

Questions

Frequently asked

The questions people actually type at two in the morning.

I have bites but I cannot find any bugs. Does that mean I do not have them?

No - and it does not confirm them either. Bites are the least conclusive sign there is, because people react to them very differently and several things bite. What settles the question is physical evidence in the room rather than marks on skin: mattress seams first, then the sheets, the pillows, the wall behind the headboard and the carpet edge.

What is the difference between heat treatment and chemical treatment?

They are different jobs, not two labels for the same visit. Heat treatment - also sold as thermal or heated treatment - works on the room itself. Chemical treatment applies product where the insects harbour. Steam is a third, more targeted approach. Which one is proposed changes the preparation you have to do, how long you are out of the room, and how the job is priced, so ask which one you are being quoted for before you agree to the number.

How much does bed bug treatment cost?

There is no single national number, and any site that gives you one without asking about your home is guessing. The figure is built from how many rooms are involved, which method is used, and how the company measures the job - some quote per room, some per square foot. Some offer payment plans as well. The quote itself comes from the local company; what we can do is tell you what it should be based on so you can compare two of them.

How long does treatment take, and how long before they are gone?

Those are two separate questions and companies answer them differently, which is why we do not publish one figure for either. The length of the visit depends on the method and the number of rooms. The interval before a home is clear depends on the method and on whether follow-up visits are part of the plan. Ask any company you speak to for both, in writing, and ask what happens if the first treatment does not finish the job.

How do I choose a bed bug company?

Ask four things: which method they use and why it suits your situation, what preparation falls to you, whether follow-up visits are included or billed separately, and what happens if there is still a problem afterwards. A company that answers those plainly is far easier to compare than one that leads with a price. We match you with licensed local companies - we do not carry out treatment ourselves.
